Audra Vaillancourt - Clarinet
I’ve been playing with the Cornet Band for about a year - after some serious encouragement to dig my clarinet out of storage. My four years of middle school band were replaced with theater and costumes by high school and college as my horn got tucked away. Today I own a formalwear alterations business; working out of Urbana, MD. It has been almost 30 years since I played and I am so excited to be back into music. The band is so very encouraging and open to all its members!

Brent McCoy - Alto Sax
-
Richard Culp - Tenor Sax
The first instrument I ever learned to play was the Baritone Ukele in the 3rd grade. Although, I remember banging on pots and pans when I was much younger along to my moms oldie casset tapes. Ever since then, I have had a strong passion for music and performance. I picked up the Alto Sax in 5th grade and started playing it more seriously once I got to middle school where I joined the Concert band and Jazz Band at Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte NC. I also started playing the Guitar, Bass and Drums around that same time. During the 7 years I was at that school (which was a Middle and High School all in one) I studied music continuously in Wind Ensembles and Jazz band. We played all sorts of festivals and concerts/gigs. I also picked up the Trombone around 11th grade in an independent study class and moved to Tennor Sax in the Jazz band in 9th. I then went to Brevard College for a year to study music. After that I went to Broadcasting School to learn about TV Production and also to be near home to play drums in my Metal Band at the time. In my early 20’s, I started touring the country playing in different bands on drums, bass, sax in a variety of bands playing different styles of music. All the while working in TV Production to make my living in between tours. I moved to Philly in my early 30’s to join the Psycadellic Rock Band band called Ecstatic Vision (playing drums) that I ended up touring Europe, Canada and Mexico several times. Fast forward to today…I am pushing 40 years old and still blessed to be able to make my living being creative and seeing the world sharing my music. I have made some of the best friends of my life being creative together.
I have always thought that music is the universal language bringing many walks of life together. I believe the Harmony Cornet band is a prime example of that. My favorite part of the band is the fact that we have many age groups playing these tunes and having fun together and the welcoming community atmosphere. I have only been with the group for a few months but I fully look forward to what the future holds!

Bob Donk - Trumpet
Bob moved to Frederick from Upstate NY in 2000 and is a retired pastor. He has been playing his trumpet since he was in the 4th grade and even started a 30-piece community brass band in 1970, which is still active today. In 2023 Bob heard about the Harmony Cornet Band and he is presently the lead trumpet.

Jeff Nuse - Trumpet
-
Matt Buckner - Trumpet
Matt studied music at Marshall University during the mid 90's. He performed with most of the ensembles they had to offer.
After college he took a long break from the trumpet. In 2016 he picked the trumpet back up with the Hood College Symphonic Band. Since then he has played with the Hood College Jazz Band, Sunday Night Big Band, Swinging Harmony Jazz Band and the Harmony Cornet Band.
When not playing trumpet you can find him mountain biking the rad trails in the Frederick Watershed.

Denny Schafer - Trumpet
-
Lynn Mitchell - Trombone
Lynn has been playing trombone since the 5th grade. He was a business major at Madison College (now called JMU) and was an inaugural member of the Marching Royal Dukes, established in 1972. For the next 35 years he only played privately at home. In the early 2010's, someone from the church started a small orchestra to play at church services. One of the orchestra members discovered a small community band located in Harmony, Maryland, which led to a few of the orchestra members joining the Harmony Cornet Band. In 2018 the Harmony Cornet Band, which played parades and concerts, expanded and added the Swingin' Harmony Big Band to its genres.
Lynn currently plays in the Harmony Cornet Band, Swingin' Harmony Big Band, and the Brook Hill United Methodist orchestra.
